AMBARAWA STEAMED TRAIN MUSEUM

semarang_kereta1Steamed Train Museum Ambarawa located on the former railway station in Ambarawa (Willem I) built in 1873, about 40 km south of Semarang, the capital city of Central Java Province, on the main road to Yogyakarta. This museum is under supervised of Indonesia Railway Office and open 7 days a week from 8.00 up to 17.00 Western Indonesia Time. Its collection consist of railway station equipment and various locomotive. The oldest locomotive (C1140) was fabricated in Germany in 1891, while the youngest locomotive preserved here (CC5029) was made in Switzerland in 1928.

This museum also gives service for those who want to experience getting on steamed train from Ambarawa station to Bedono station. What make it interesting from this trip is the loco makes use burning teak wood to produce steam as the source of fuel and the route is winding up with rice field and traditional village views can be seen during the trip.
